The Kabataang Liberal ng Pilipinas joined the Coke Planet Project 2007: A Race to Save the Earth by Coca Cola Company. The activity gathered different youth organizations around the Metro Manila to make step and save the mother earth from environmental destruction.

The first phase of the project was a blogging competition being competed by 126 organizations. The blogging competition dealt on the theme 10 steps to save mother earth.

“KALIPI is not only training the youths on the world of politics but also on being a leader on different ways.” Sec-Gen. Jan-Argy Tolentino said. “The Coke Planet Project showed the youth’s awareness, concern and actions on different environmental problems.” Prof. Tolentino added.

Over 1200 youths trooped to the SM Mall of Asia for the final program of the project last 20 October 2007.

On October 6, 2007 to show our gratitude to the people who made these project possible KALIPI-PUP will conduct a sem-break  thanks giving concert at the prime gimmick place Metro Comedy Bar in West Avenue, Quezon City .

The concert with the title “CAMPUS MUSIC SCENE” will feature some of today’s hottest OPM bands CALLA LILY, ITCHYWORMS and SOAPDISH and Metro’s top stand-up comedian together with some university bands and other talents.

The event also serves as a fund raising activity that may become another venue for our chapter to make more projects and extension programs. This also serve as a get together party for KALIPI members from different chapters celbrating the 18^th anniversary of KALIPI.. Students from PUP and also from various colleges and universities with KALIPI CHAPTERS (CEU, UE, SAN SEBASTIAN, UST, PLM, CCM, UP, BSU, LYCEUM, RTU etc.) around the metro are invited.

The activity aims to teach and enhance students’ knowledge in English, Math and Science. It visions to prepare them to enter Science High School. Free modules and food are provided for it to be more convenient to the students.

“We want them to be prepared to a more competitive academic world especially on Science High School which may give more opportunity to students.” KALIPI-PUP President Cherry Mae de Asis said.

The program is being done in coordination with the College of Engineering – Junior Council Officers (CE-JCO) and Kapatiran ng Talino at Galing (KATAGA) PUP Honors Society.

The seminar is divided into three phases. In the first part, participants are given materials to read to deepen their knowledge. In the second part, they are encouraged to discuss via an online forum their thoughts and insights. Lastly, participants will be asked to write an essay. Click here for more information.

The seminar does not require participants to be online at all times. They have the flexibility to work at their own pace provided they meet the deadlines assigned to each task.

Based on their contribution, IAF will invite 22 participants to Gummersbach, Germany to continue the discussions raised online from 23 – 30 November 2007.

The blogging workshop is a 2-hour hands-on training, 9am to 11am, that will be held every Wednesday, starting 20 June 2007, at the young liberal’s premises in Sta. Mesa, Manila. Only three participants will be trained every session and they will be given certificates at the end of their training. One more thing, It’s for FREE.

To supplement the knowledge of the participants, materials on Globalization were given to the participants. An on-line forum was conducted where the participants exchange and discuss ideas and insights. To complete the seminar, the participants answered a brief test and submitted an essay on their chosen topic.

Asked why he joined the seminar, KALIPI PUP chapter member Fidel Esteban answered, “[The] phenomenon of a so-called borderless world is often misunderstood by many of us. I wan’t to shed some light of truth over the topic not just to enrich my personal knowledge but also to educate others.”

The Friedrch Naumann Foundation selected 12 participants to continue discussion on Panglao Island, Bohol from April 22-26, 2007. Lawrence P. Villamar, a member of KALIPI PUP chapter, was among the twelve chosen, along with seven other Filipino particpants and four regional participants from Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand. The three-day presence seminar was a thorough discussion and debate on Globalization vis à vis poverty, human rights, culture and international politics.

Asked what he learned from the presence seminar, Lawrence P. Villamar, a student of Public Administration and Governance said, “The seminar itself provided important and useful insights to the phenomena of Globalization. There’s a lack of sufficient information about it, that’s why is popularly misconstrued as ‘evil”. But from what I learned from the training, globalization in itself, is good.”

The activity gathered student leaders from different organizations in CEFP and also from the University. It provided workshops and discussions on Leadership and in Effective Strategic and Communication Planning. Its aim was to teach the students the value of cooperation, collaboration, unity, teamwork and leadership in an organization.

Mr. Reymundo de Guzman, CEFPAA President and KALIPI National Deputy Secretary General headed the activity. He gave discussions on Leadership and Ways of Effective Planning.

“Planning as a crucial part of action in an organization must be given proper management. The achievement of the mission, vision and goal of each organization lies in their effective actions”, de Guzman said.

Mr. Rob Ramos, KALIPI National Media and Communications Officer gave tips and strategies in effective communication planning. Workshop activities were facilitated by Rachel Bersamera, Franz dela Vega, Ivy Ganadillo and Roslyn Ruth Briones, KALIPI facilitators.

Towards the end of the activity were focus group discussions, SWOT (Strength, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats) analysis and brainstorming of ideas that dealt on the pertinent issues inside and outside the organization and also in their respective project proposals.

Ms. Cherry Mae de Asis, KALIPI-PUP President said that “With the trainings given, officers of each organization are now more eager to pursue each objective behind the hindrances they are facing.”

The activity was also participated by CEFP Student Council, Junior Council Officers (JCO), Junior Financial Executives, Economics Research Society (ECONRES) and Political Science Society (PSS). Aside from CEFP organizations, are College of Accountancy (COA) Student Council and Kilos!PUP.
